BOOKS READ IN 2007

THE MAGIC CITY by E. Nesbit

I read this one for a book club, in which we are trying to get in touch with children's literature.  It was written about 100 years ago, and still paints a vivid picture of how a child's imagination works.

A Very Long Engagement by Sebastien Japrisot

I loved the movie so I had to read the novel.  The movie actually follows the book very well.  I enjoyed the book just as much, but have to admit that I miss a few of the quirky and fun details that were thrown into the movie.

Gods In Alabama by Joshilyn Jackson

This was a decently entertaining book,  but not a must read.  I bought it while on vacation to read on the plane home, so for the occasion it worked.  I might be inclined to read another book by the same author just because I generally like stories set in the South.

The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger

I wasn't sure if I liked this book when I first started reading it, and I admit for the first 50 pages or so I was really confused about the continuity of the book, but by end I absolutely loved it.  Once I got really into it, I couldn't stop reading.  I do admit that I became very attached to the character and the book had me crying by the end.  I can't wait to see what they do what they do with the movie adaptation, although I can't really see Rachael McAdams as Claire.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling

This was a fantastic end to the series.  This book was fairly jam packed with action right from the start, and the conclusion was very satisfying, despite the high body count by the end of the book.  About 150 page before the end of the book I couldn't stop reading, and ending up staying up until 1 on a work night no less in order to finish.  I wouldn't I wouldn't be able to sleep until I knew how it all ended!  The only disappointment for me was the epilogue, which I found to be a little corny, but perhaps setting up a spin off series.

Twilight by Stephanie Meyer

This is a young adult book I came across while searching the bestseller lists for our next book club selection, and I have to say that I loved it!  I really couldn't put it down once I started reading.  While the romance part of it was a little corny and juvenile (although I probably would have swooned over it when I was a teenager), Meyer's illustration of Vampires is fascinating, and unlike the characters I have known through movies.  Once the action in the book picks up, it's hard to put it down.  I will definitely be buying the sequel books to find out what happens next!

NOW READING:

Devil in the White City by Erik Larson

I keep reading fantastic reviews of this book, so I can't wait to really get started!
