Holiday Party Dress

Project Specs

Pattern: Simplicity 4577

This was a dress I made for my company's Christmas party.  This was my most challenging sewing project to date.  The dress was fully lined, so it was really like making two dresses, and then making them fit together.  It took me over two weeks of serious stressing and a couple of meltdowns, but I'm pretty happy with the outcome.  The pattern was pretty easy to follow, except I did have to make some pretty large modifications to the bust.  I'm pretty sure it wasn't due to my lack of chest either.  I don't know if my gathering skills are not so hot, or if the pattern was a little off.  The pattern included an overlay with some gathering at the waistline, and also a drape for the front, but I decided to keep it simple an omit either detail.  I added a broach just for a little extra sparkle. Unfortunately when I wore it to the party I snagged part of the skirt with a bracelet I was wearing, and it left a pretty big run.  It's not too noticeable, so maybe if I'm going somewhere at night and it will be dark I can wear it again.

Date Finished: November 30, 2006

Here's the "Prom Picture" of me wearing the dress:
