Minky Blankets

Project Specs

I always see these type of Minky Blankets for babies and kids, but why not for adults?  These were both made for my sister-in-laws as Christmas gifts.  One of them saw the patchwork baby blanket I made, and liked the soft fabric.  She asked me to make one for her, so of course if I make something for one, I have to make something for the other.  The construction was simple enough (minky backed with flannel), but the large size of the blankets (about 60"x72") made working on them unwieldy.  They were difficult to cut, pin, and sew correctly.  In fact they were such a pain in the butt I vowed that I would never make another after these two.  However, after I felt how cuddly and soft they were, I knew I wanted one for myself.  With these two I made the mistake of using minky that was 60" wide and flannel that was only 45" wide, so I had to sew two panels of flannel together and then sew the flannel to the minky.  Next time I plan to use both 60" minky and 60" flannel to reduce the extra measuring and cutting.
